Fitting a horse saddleHome -> Archive -> Fitting a horse saddleWhen you are choosing a horse saddle it is vital that you get a saddle that fits perfectly. This will ensure that both you and your horse are completely comfortable, allowing you to excel in your riding. To fit the rider you should measure an English saddle from the nailhead just below the pommel to the middle of the cantle. Western horse saddles are measured from the back of the pommel (swell) to the stitching on the cantle. If the saddle is the right size, you should be able to place three fingers between your seat and the cantle. However, it is not always straightforward to know what size you are. For example, if you are tall then you may find that a larger seat is more comfortable whereas someone who is slightly shorter but with the same build may be more comfortable in a horse saddle with a smaller seat. The Dogwood range of horse saddles Dogwood horse saddles are the first choice of the discerning horse rider. Choose from beautiful leather horse saddles such as the Bates Momentum for a traditional look or the Wintec Close Contact from our collection of synthetic horse saddles which offer a practical, easy to clean alternative to leather.
