Britain was devoid of grand horse show facilities until Hickstead Place and its surrounding land was purchased in 1960 by a man called Douglas Bunn who had the aspiration of holding the preeminent show jumping event at a venue far superior to any other in the world.

The years that followed saw this man's dreams transpire into a wonderful reality as his collection of fields flourished into one of the world's most renowned show jumping and horse show venues featuring six arenas and seating for more than 5,000 spectators.

Hickstead's All England Jumping Course has been host to some of the most prestigious horse shows and show jumping events. Since it began hosting the Official Show Jumping Event of Great Britain, the British Nations Cup and Grand Prix meeting, in 1971, Hickstead has seen some of the world's finest horses and riders competing, from the World Championships in 1974 to the European Championships in 1983 and again in 1999.

The All England Jumping Course celebrated its 45th anniversary as the home of international show jumping in Great Britain in 2005. International show jumping trainer, George Morris has even described the course as a ‘magic carpet', following the amount of successes that equestrian pros have seen here over the years.
