Horse tack is a vital part of any equestrian's life as it provides the means by which to enjoy riding their horse. Saddles, bridles, girths, head collars, reins, martingales, and breastplates are just some of the items referred to by the term �horse tack�.

Keeping your horse tack in good condition

It is important to keep your horse tack in good condition because if used in a poor state of repair, it could cause permanent damage to your horse. It will also help to extend the life of the horse equipment, especially in the case of leather products.

Leather horse tack should be wiped down after every use to remove surface dirt. It should also be thoroughly cleaned and have saddle soap applied to it every one to two weeks to help keep the leather supple and soft.

Synthetic horse tack is attractive to many people because it takes much less maintenance than leather. A quick rinse down with a stiff brush and warm water generally suffices and it can be left to dry naturally.

Metalwork that is used as part of horse tack, such as bits and stirrups, can be quickly and easily scrubbed clean with a brush and warm water. Metal parts should be polished every fortnight or so to keep them looking shiny.
