Barbour menswear collection for autumn-winter 2006Home -> Articles -> Barbour mens 2006 collectionBarbour wear has become something of a national institution since John Barbour set about finding the ultimate in outdoor wear all those years ago. The new Barbour country and casual wear collection for the autumn/winter 2006 is no exception. You can expect the same quality in craftsmanship and customer service that Barbour has been proud to present for over a century. However, this year we see innovation and retro styling bringing a whole new panache to the Barbour range. The menswear, especially, boasts some outstanding core pieces that will delight those that work and pursue leisure activities out of doors. Every outdoor-oriented male should own a piece of Barbour wear, whether it is a legendary wax jacket to keep out the wind and rain or a lambswool sweatshirt for extra warmth. But this season Barbour has something that little bit special in store and there really is something for everyone… Something to write home about… The first addition to the Barbour autumn/winter collection is the Nethercott Parka. This piece took inspiration from our esteemed British heritage and was modelled on a jacket that was returned to Barbour for refurbishment after seeing action on the front line during the Gulf War. Designed with a multitude of pockets for practicality and a hood and cowl neck to the back for maximum protection from the wet and cold, the Nethercott is also longer in length and is shaped by a drawcord to the waist. Something for the other rider in you… If you are familiar with the company history, you will be aware that Barbour wear was a big hit with the British International Motorcycle Team between 1936 and 1977. This has come full circle and part of this season's collection is designed especially to complement Barbour's iconic International Jacket with a retro biker-style spin. Read more about the beginnings of Barbour wear. The International Biker Jacket, featuring heavyweight, waxed cotton, lightly padded shoulder and elbow patches and zip fastening to the upper pockets and sleeves, is expected to make a tremendous impact this season. Alternatively, the Barbour Vintage International Jacket in weathered wax is reminiscent of way back when and is styled with an authentic belt fastening. Something for the traditionalist… If you long for a touch of classic country styling and unyielding protection from fierce weather conditions then the “Drovers cut” Stockman Coat may be just what you are looking for. It offers a longer length, a storm cape and studded adjustable fantail along with the sophistication of a traditional cord collar and heritage check lining. However, you may prefer an old classic with a fresh twist. The Weather-Worked Beaufort is classically cut but made from a fully waterproof and washable fabric with the appearance of leather which is completely new to the expert Barbour craftsmen. Something to warm your cockles… The Barbour Eskadale Quilts are back this season but are lighter and longer than ever before. But if maximum warmth from lightweight clothing is what you are looking for try the Newfoundland Quilt or Gilet which are insulated with Thermolite, a favourite of the British Army. Brighten up those dull winter days with a Lambswool Sports Crew, V Neck or Country Heather stripe. Alternatively, as the nights draw in keep warm as can be while wearing a traditional style Barbour Lambswool Cardigan.
