Barbour and the Household Cavalry Polo teamHome -> Articles -> Household cavalry polo team and barbourAs a world-famous country clothing manufacturer and esteemed name in equestrian circles, Barbour has connections with some high-profile parties. One such link is the Barbour sponsorship of the Household Cavalry Polo team. The Household Cavalry is a corps that consists of two regiments - the Life Guards and the Blues and the Royals - and both are steeped in tradition. To give you an indication of its long-standing status: the existence of the Household Cavalry can be traced all the way back to 1660. Prince Harry is a member of this much admired military unit and Prince William is due to follow suit. Barbour, a company best known for its waxed jackets, has been sponsoring the polo team of the Household Cavalry since 2002. Although the classic Barbour jacket is not exactly appropriate for use on the pitch, the players do wear Barbour polo shirts in their games. In addition to sporting fashionable Barbour clothing, the team also provide valuable feedback and advice to the country clothing firm. Shirts designed with the polo players influence are part of Barbours spring/summer collection of stylish outdoor wear and are an ideal choice for those who love the Game of Kings. The Barbour-sponsored Household Cavalry Polo team As military personnel, members of the Household Cavalry Polo team are sometimes called away for service and spend considerable time abroad. This means that a number of different people may play in the team depending who is available. However, the foundation of the team is solid and over the last few years the players have seen considerable success in their Barbour polo shirts. In 2005 they celebrated after being triumphant in the Inter-Regimental Cup, and had other successes in the Royal Windsor Horse Show Cup and the Claude Pert Cup. Capt Ben Vestey has proudly held his position in the Household Cavalry Polo team for the last three years and has played in games as far afield as South Africa and America. His pre-Household Cavalry experience of European-level polo playing has undoubtedly helped him to maintain an excellent 4 goal average. Another of the core members is Hamed Ali, a 3-goal player who has been an integral part of the Barbour-sponsored polo team for two years. A very experienced player, Hamed has taken part in a number of important international games and has been playing professionally in English polo since 1987. Maj Rupert Lewis is another of the Household Cavalry team whose skill and experience has proven invaluable in polo games all over the world, including the UAE, Argentina, America and Pakistan. He is representing the team whilst in London on ceremonial duties and is currently playing off 1 goal.
