If you enjoy horse riding at any level then your horse riding equipment will be incredibly important to you. It is vital that you have good quality safety equipment and riding boots and that your clothing is comfortable.

Riding boots are almost as important as a riding hat which meets EU safety standards. You should buy a pair of riding boots that fit you correctly, are comfortable and that will be suitable for the type of activity you take part in. If you have chosen leather riding boots then caring for them is vital to ensure longevity.

Caring for leather riding boots

When you buy your riding boots spray them with leather protector containing moisturisers and weather proofing agents. Continue to spray the boots as regularly as once a month

Always wipe off dust and dirt that accumulates each time you wear them. Dirt can damage the porous surface of you leather riding boots. Smooth leather should be gently wiped with a slightly damp cloth and leather with a nap such as suede should be brushed with an appropriate brush

Every now and again use a specialist leather cleaner or white vinegar to give the boots a proper deep clean

If your leather riding boots get rain soaked then stop wearing them and fill with paper towels or newspaper until they dry naturally. Do not put them by a radiator as this could shrink them and don't wear them when soaking wet as they will stretch
