Sixty horses in full horse tack attend Hyde Park service

Hyde Park is to host over sixty horses and ponies in full horse tack for the 43rd annual Horsemen's Sunday this weekend.

The event will commence with a church service at 12pm on horseback and will then be followed by a blessing of all the horses and riders who will then receive a rosette as a symbol of the blessing.

The vicar of St John's, the Reverend Stephen Mason, said: "This occasion is one of the most colourful in the Hyde Park calendar."

He added that it is one of the only occasions where you get to see a member of clergy in their cloaks in the saddle.

The service was started in 1968 to highlight the importance of maintaining stables along the north of Hyde Park.
