The Avon and Somerset mounted police went to Glastonbury music festival this year to offer the tupe of police presence used in muddy fields and rough terrain! The only mounted force in the West Country, the Avon and Somerset police stabled on site at the festival performing duties for around 4-5 hours at a time.
Horses are introduced to the force at around five years of age and it can take a year for the force to train them to the standard required to perform duties and be an operational police horse. Out of 46 forces in the country, only 16 have mounted forces which are used for a range of operations such as football matches.
NuuMed saddle pads teamed up with Avon and Somerset force and the majority of other mounted forces over the country to give each horse comfort underneath their saddles while on patrol. The numnahs were sported at Glastonbury and Officers said the saddle pads washed well and didn’t fade, even throughout the long, wet days at Glastonbury.
