Dressage rider Laura Wood lost everything from horse tack and horse rugs to bedding and horse feed when her lorry caught fire on her journey to the British Dressage Area Festival at Rowallan Activity Centre, Ayrshire.

Thankfully, the rider's horse was travelling in a friend's lorry and so had a lucky escape from the fire. The alarm was raised when a woman noticed flames coming from underneath the horsebox.

Everything inside the box, including Wood's rider clothing and competition wear, was ruined in the flames and the horsebox was burnt to a charred shell.

Speaking of the fire, Wood told Horse and Hound: "I'm so glad my horse was travelling with my friend's horse. I've had to borrow everything from underwear to competition-wear. Everyone has just pulled together and helped me out; I don't know how I can thank everyone enough."

Gloucestershire-based Laura’s latest achievements include winning the British Dressage second owner's award to recognise her achievement with her six-year-old mare Loranta.

The accomplished rider will no doubt now be drawing up an expensive shopping list of all the horse equipment and horse rugs which need to be replaced.
