The Antiques Road show is well known for its unique finds, but how about a beer jug made from the skin of Oliver Cromwell’s horse?
The piece has been dubbed one of the interesting finds in the history of the television programme, after it was revealed the tankard had been made from the famous republican’s dead horse, Blackjack. The words “Oliver Cromwell Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Wales 1653” where inscribed upon it; a true unique antique.
The antiques expert John Foster valued the item at £30,000 for owner Richard Hoare who came upon the item after it had been passed down through the generations.
Richard’s son, Paul, said “I was taken off to a private room and the jugt was kept in a safe until I met John Foster” after experts got extremely excited about this true piece of equestrian horse tack, with a difference!
The jug will feature on the show but may never be sold at auction. This truly inspirational piece commemorates the bravery of many horses that have lived.
