Schoolchildren from nineteen schools across Greenwich have been involved in a workshop designing a special jump to be part of the prestigious Olympic Games cross country course next year.

The schools have sent in 117 designs to organisers LOCOG which are all based on the children’s ideas about Greenwich. Inspiration was drawn from local land marks and the Millennium Dome; and plans are that the designs will be incorporated into the area around the fences called the ‘jump zone’.
Leader of the Greenwich council, Cllr Chris Roberts said the work submitted so far are ‘fantastic designs’.

Reece Page from Wyborne Primary school at only 10 years old put on his Wellington boots and attended the test event earlier in the year for ideas and looked at photographs on the internet.

“I’d be really proud if I saw my design on TV. I’d be shouting at my mum to come and look at it.”

The judging panel will be selecting five winners at the end of November and will be adapted and used as part of Sue Benson’s Olympic course.
