The famous and beautiful thirty-foot sculpture of a horse head which sat in the South Downs is travelling to its new home in Australia to serve as a memorial to the late polo player, patron and entrepreneur, Kerry Packer.

The bronze statue, Artemis was created by Artist Nic Fiddian-Green after being inspired by a trip to see the Elgin Marbles in the British museum. In 2010 the statue moved from looking over the Selsey Peninsula and Chichester at the top of the Trundle in Goodwood, to the actual Goodwood racecourse where people were able to don their best racing gear and country clothing and see the iconic statue up close.

“It is quite an honour,” said the artist. “It is a rather wonderful end to a long journey, as it has taken me 30 years to have the confidence to make this.”

The four tonne piece of art has been brought for £1m and will arrive in New South Wales at the end of December and will join the Packer estate in the Great Dividing Range of Mountains.
