An equestrian centre in Flookburgh, near Morecambe Bay, has just opened its gates as a horse riding school for the first time.

Airfield Farm Riding Centre and Livery Yard has been a livery yard for the past two years but, following licensing from the authorities, has now been approved as a riding school.

It is owned and run by Jenny and Jamie Latham, who say that they plan to be "a small family-run business doing pony-trekking, lessons and things like that."

Jenny Latham talked about the wide range of nearby locations that equestrians can explore, saying "We can get up on to the Holker Fells and have good access there, and have some lovely rides around Flookburgh, Cark and Cartmel."

Mrs Latham is a keen equestrian and has a degree in equine science. She is also a sports coach, which will help her in her role as the main horse riding instructor for the school.

There is an indoor riding school at the equestrian centre, which is based on an old airfield, and the couple hope to add an outdoor riding school at a later date.

Mrs Latham said: "We are open for business now. We can take people for riding lessons from the age of six months upwards."
