It has been reported in the Telegraph that the wax jacket, epitomised by the likes of Barbour, has become this year’s (2007) “must-have fashion accessory”.

With torrential summer rain the bygone oxymoron of a “stylish wax jacket” was turned completely on its head. With revellers as well as band members at sodden music festivals all being seen sporting a wax jacket and a pair of Wellington rubber boots, the new phase for British summer fashion and a renaissance in the traditional wax jacket was born.

Among those celebrities sporting a waxed waterproof jacket was lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner, Lily Allen, Peaches Geldof, Sienna Miller, and stalwart British fashionista and trendsetter, Kate Moss.

Recent winner of the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize, The Klaxons, spoke of their love for Barbour and its traditional wax jackets, with singer Jamie Reynolds commenting to V magazine: “Our look is Barbour”.

As winners of one of the foremost music awards for innovation in music, to receive such adulation is sure to please those at Barbour HQ.

Tom Jeffreys of Barbour commented on the snowball effect the Barbour brand has had on festival goers: “As the rain continued, more and more bands started wearing them. Then the fans brought them. Now it has become this season’s wet-weather look.”

With modern takes on traditional fabrics, the Barbour Parka and Trooper wax jacket show that the Barbour country clothing brand are certainly not getting complacent and resting on their laurels of their outstanding year.
