Charles Owen has announced that it will be sponsoring successful horse rider Philip Makin for the 2007 season.

The British manufacturer, which has been internationally recognised for its horse riding safety equipment, was approached by the professional equestrian after he noticed their role in developing better safety gear for the National Hunt Market.

However, this is not the only link between Charles Owen and Philip Makin. It has been revealed that the equestrian spent the early stages of his riding career at the Northern Racing College, an organisation with which Charles Owen is associated with its pony racing initiatives.

Pony racing is an area of which the talented equestrian, who has more than 150 wins under his belt and has been awarded over £1m in prize money in his short career, is very supportive.

When speaking about the Charles Owen sponsored pony racing initiative, 22-year-old Makin commented: "I just wish it was running a few years ago when I was starting!"
