Jockey receives compensation after horse riding accidentHome -> News -> Compensation for jockey after horse riding injuryA horse riding jockey has recently received compensation in the sum of £85,000 following a freak accident that left him unable to race or take part in any horse riding activities ever again. The 40-year-old was employed in a 20-horse yard when the accident took place. Whilst out riding with a fellow jockey, the other jockey’s horse lashed out and caught his lower leg, fracturing his tibia. Despite extensive medical treatment it was two years until he recovered from the injury. However, an infection and a recurring weakness in his leg mean that his horse riding days are now over. A specialist racing and bloodstock lawyer who handled the case commented: “[Our client's] settlement takes into account the fact that he has a permanent disability which means he can’t continue with his chosen career. This is a large compensation award, but [he] is significantly out of pocket as a result of his injury and it was right that he received compensation from the insurers.” The law relating to equestrian and other animal accidents means the finger of blame was not pointed at the trainer of the horse. |
