The latest James Bond, Daniel Craig, paid an understated visit to a country clothing shop in North Yorkshire and walked away with three flat caps.

The 63-year-old shop assistant who served him revealed that she had no idea who he was at the time, simply assuming that he was just another customer.

She said: "I have seen some of the James Bond films but the maddening thing is that because I haven't seen Casino Royale I just didn't recognise him."

She explained that the film star had come into the Carter's Country Wear shop, which specialises in fishing, hunting and shooting clothing, with the intention of buying a pair of Wellington boots.

Unfortunately there was only a limited selection of welly boots in the shop.

The country clothing shop assistant said: "The only wellies we had were pink and he said that he didn't think they would really suit him."

This setback did not deter the Casino Royale star, however, and he instead tried on a variety of flat caps, eventually settling on three.

The shop's manager said: "[The shop assistant] couldn't believe it when I told her who it was. We checked the receipt slip for his signature and there it was: Daniel Craig.

"I get a lot of famous people in the shop but I've never had James Bond!"
