Horse riders urged by BHS to sign online petitionHome -> News -> Equestrian community urged to sign access petitionThe British Horse Society is calling upon all equestrians and those that love horse riding to sign an online petition to persuade the government to give the horse loving fraternity a say in the new access and rights of way legislation. Given that the equestrian community is one of the most vulnerable groups of all road users, and that the sport of equestrianism is enjoyed by over four million people in the UK; the fact that the horse riding community have not been included in the recent access-creating legislation is simply unjust when it comes to the views of the British Horse Society. The British Horse Society director of access, safety and welfare, Mark Weston stated: “It is vital that we use all means available to impress on the government that the equestrians need more and safer access. E-Petitions are one way of showing the demand, along with writing to our MP’s.” Horse riding and the driving of horses is the second biggest land-based industry and given that a recent petition amounted to 20,000 signatures for adjustments to be made to the equestrian sections of the Highway Code, the concern by the equestrian community for the welfare of themselves and their horses is very much evident. The British Horse Society access department has placed the petition on the government website which can be found at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Equestrianaccess/. |
