Hunter welly boot demand surges due to festival goers.Home -> News -> Festival season sees welly boot surgeWith the festival season well underway and the British summer at its unpredictable best, the demand for welly boots is at an all time high. The major retailers of camping and country clothing are reporting an unprecedented demand as festival goers are trying to grab their wellies at the last minute, especially for the notoriously wet Glastonbury festival. The renowned welly boot maker, Hunter, is well used to the sudden rush that the ‘outdoor music’ season brings. After model Kate Moss was seen sporting a pair of Hunter Wellington’s at 2005’s Glastonbury festival, the fashionistas of the festival fraternity all wanted to bag a pair for themselves. Hunter’s chief executive, Malcolm Cannon commented: “The phones started going last Wednesday and they won’t stop for a couple of weeks.” As it stands, the Hunter Wellington boot factory in Scotland is operating at full capacity in order to fulfil the surge of orders. As well as good pair of welly boots, the country clothing factor has carried over to jackets as well; with retailers seeing festival goers panic buying wax jackets in addition to many other waterproof garments. The charity Oxfam has anticipated the latent demand for wellies as well as the very short memories of festival goers, and are coming prepared with 1,000 pairs of welly boots and 2,000 waterproof jackets to sell on site. |
