Equestrians will be spoilt for choice this autumn, as the inaugural New Vision Horse Show goes head-to-head with the Horse of the Year Show for ticket sales.

New Vision organisers have announced their event will take place a scant two weeks before HOYS, establishing a clear rivalry between the two equestrian shows from the get-go.

HOYS, long thought of as the jewel in crown of UK eventing and a self-declared ‘championship of champions’, will take place 3-7 October. New Vision, with its unheard-of £50,000 prize fund, is billed for 21-22 September.

“We think showing has gone flat and hasn’t moved with the times,” said Mike Florence, the man behind New Vision. “We want to give showing the fresh air it so needs.”

He hopes to do this by allowing cheap, open entry for competitors and by introducing a substantial cash prize for every rider who finishes top-eight in their class.

“Prize money is the key,” said Florence, who proudly claims he has enough banked at present to finance the event for the next five years.
