26-year-old tackles horse riding challenge for charity

A 26-year-old female equestrian is raising money ahead of her charity horse riding trip across the Andes.

Kirsty Dance, who has been enjoying life in the saddle since she was 10, is intending travel across the treacherous mountains on horseback in order to make money for the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).

Her trek will take her past volcanoes and through extremely remote hills, and she will spend much time at high altitudes, something for which she needs to train specially.

The keen equestrian explained that she is undertaking fitness training that will prepare her for the altitude, saying: "The fitter you are, the less likely to get ill."

The horse riding trek is organised to take place in September 2007 but she has pledged to raise £2,700 for the ILPH beforehand.

She said: "I wanted to do this challenge as I feel that the ILPH is a very worthwhile charity; it strives to improve equine welfare on an international level.

"The charity relies on people taking time to help to promote their cause and gather funds on their behalf. If no-one took the time to do this, many projects would be unable to continue and many horses would not become rehabilitated."
