The director of Bramham horse trials (Eventing), one of Britain’s foremost FEI 3 Star Events, is set to embark on an epic journey across India, covering over 200km.

In aid of the Brooke, the overseas equestrian welfare charity, the inevitably gruelling journey is to raise money for the charity as well as educating Indians on how to look after their horses better.

Of the journey, director Deborah Homewood commented: “It will be one of the toughest things I have ever done, and I’m expecting to see some distressing scenes. Knowing I’m making a difference to thousands of working horses will make my efforts worth it.”

The journey itself lasts for 10 days, with a group of 29 going in total. The estimate time for horse riding per day is eight hours, with sleeping arrangements being provided in the form of Bedouin tents in the Rajasthan countryside of Northern India. The equestrian adventurers will be horse riding upon local Indian Marwari horses, which have the capability to survive on small food rations and do not require shoes.

Of their equestrian companions, Deborah stated: “They’re fantastic horses with angled shoulders to help them deal with the boggy terrain. Thankfully they’re very sturdy and comfortable to ride.”
