Redundancies at Hunter Wellington boots firmHome -> News -> Jobs losses at hunter wellington boots factoryThe legendary manufacturer of Hunter Wellington boots has announced that it will be making a number of redundancies. The country clothing company, which makes its wellies at its factory in Dumfries, has previously had financial troubles and went into administration in April 2006. However, things were looking positive for Hunter employees after successful bid by a consortium headed by Conservative Party treasurer Jonathon Marland, in which he promised to keep jobs in Scotland. Despite this, the Hunter Wellington boot producer has revealed it has to let 18 of its 72 employees go in order to "ensure the long-term viability of the company". The Hunter spokesman continued: "The management wish to reiterate their commitment to the business and to looking for a solution which enables Hunter boots to continue being made in Scotland and sold at a profit." It is now in talks with unions representing the employees who make the Hunter Wellington boots in order to get the best possible outcome. |
