Equestrian endurance event receives £5,000 fundingHome -> News -> News equestrian event given grantOrganisers of the Golden Horseshoe endurance ride have announced their delight at a £5,000 grant that has been awarded to them. Equestrians are tested to the edge of their abilities in the annual 100 mile ride, which takes place on Exmoor over two days. The event has been growing in popularity with both entrants and onlookers in recent years, and this year is due to be an even better affair than previously. This is down to the fact that Exmoor National Park Authority has decided to present a substantial grant to the legendary ride, with the money coming from the Exmoor Sustainable Development Fund. One of the organisers of the Golden Horseshoe event commented: "This grant is the best news we could have hoped for. "It is a mark of confidence from the National Park, which has given permission for us to ride over its land, and a signal to the equestrian world that our sport is gaining even more official recognition."
However, it is not just the £5,000 which will be making a difference to the 2007 horse riding event. Competitors will be exploring a new route this year, with the start and finish being at different locations to usual. The Golden Horseshoe ride will be flanked by shorter events, such as the 75km Exmoor Stag and the Exmoor 80, an 80km event.
