Plans under hoof for national equestrian HQHome -> News -> Plans for a national equestrian academy at stoneleigh parkAmbitious plans are under-hoof for a global equestrian academy at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. A joint venture between the British Equestrian Federation (BEF), the Royal Agricultural Society for England (RASE) and the development agency AWM (Advantage West Midlands), hopes to see a venue being created with the facilities, capacity and capability to bid for the 2014 World Equestrian Games. An attempt three years ago for such a venture was thwarted by planning issues. However, these have now been resolved and it is down to final legal work to be completed before plans for the horse riding centre can be set in stone. The chairman of the British Horse Society said of the plans: “I am very pleased that we are now in the position whereby we can at last press ahead with plans for a state of the art, energy efficient, environmentally sound HQ for the equestrian community.” And the RASE chairman added: “We are delighted that the BHS will be coming back to our site here at Stoneleigh Park after an interval of some ten years. RASE very much values its links with the equine sector and looks forward to further exciting developments as we seek to realise our joint plans.” The hope is to have most of the major equestrian organisations all working together under one roof. As the BEF chairman states: “The BEF and its member bodies need to work from an efficient office. This proposal illustrates our collective desire to work as a cohesive, unified, progressive and modern organisation.” A spokesman for the AWM said an initial funding figure of £12million had already been approved. |
