An equestrian who was badly injured in a horse riding accident almost ten years ago has been selected as one of 12 people to go on a prestigious riding course.

Shirley Boraston, 41, was almost killed when she fell from her horse whilst out on a ride in 1998. In the accident, she suffered 27 broken bones and it was only after three operations and more than a year's rehabilitation before she could return to work.

She said: "I had to sell my horses when I had my accident and I thought I would never ride again."

However, she was determined not to let her experience put her off from horse riding and got back in the saddle just over a year after her accident.

The dedicated equestrian went from strength to strength in her recovery and she soon started competing in events once more.

She has now discovered that she has been selected to attend elite two-day training course in Gloucestershire.

The course is being run by Olympic medallist Graham Fletcher, along with two other notable riders, and Ms Boraston hopes that their advice could help her to achieve her dream of winning the British Eventing title.
