Wellies save a wedding dayHome -> News -> Rubber wellies prove to be a saving grace for a couples weddingA Bicester couple have rubber wellies to thank when their wedding venue was overcome by rising flood waters. The venue in Minster Lovell was virtually cut off from the surrounding areas, with the only access being provided by canoes and boats to get across the swollen River Windrush. It was left to the father of the bride to tell his daughter the unfortunate news that their wedding venue was flooded, he said: “To have to phone my daughter on her wedding day and tell her that was terrible.” All was not lost though, as some quick thinking led said father to purchase a dozen pair of Wellingtons, which were then used to navigate the rising water and get the bride, groom, all the bridal wear as well as those attending through the deep waters and splashing up to the venue in their rubber boots. Where one can make a drama out of a crisis, others act with a clear head and composure; this was certainly the case for the father of the bride. It just goes to show that wellies will go a long way to solve the wet conditions in the country as well those in the town. The wedding was best summed up by the maid of honour who said: “A day that started with tears has ended in smiles. It’s definitely been a day to remember!” |
