Cambridgeshire suffers a spate of horse tack theftsHome -> News -> Spate of horse tack thefts in the cambridgeshireAfter a spate of horse tack thefts in the Cambridgeshire area, police are urging horse riding clubs to step up security in order to prevent further outbreaks. The thieves have concentrated their efforts on high priced equestrian items including thousands of pounds worth of leather saddles, bridles and specialist racing equipment, as well a quad bike and mower. The proprietor of one of the targeted horse riding clubs commented: “We are not sure how much the racing bits are worth, but the saddles and bridles alone are worth well over £1000.” In order to try and stop further tack thefts the proprietor has put a new steel door in the tack room as well as CCTV cameras and more padlocks around the stable yard. Cambridgeshire’s police rural community Support Officer, Lydia Crabtree, said: “We are urging all horse owners to reassess their security measures. It is important that gates and doors are locked, property is kept out of sight and alarms are set.” The Cambridgeshire police forces are also working in conjunction with the Countryside Watch. On the 6th October, 11am to 3pm there will be a saddle security day where you can take your saddles to Feedability, Kings Farm near Peterborough for marking. To get your saddle marked there is a £5 charge, although the service is free for Countryside Watch members. |
