Bridging the gap between bridle pathsHome -> News -> Bridle path project gets grantThe People’s £50m Lottery Giveaway has awarded the Sustrans Connect 2 project a grant to bridge a gap between two bridle paths over a busy road in Catterick, Yorkshire. The Big Lottery Fund People’s £50 million lottery giveaway had a number of equestrian projects vying for a slice of the money and with celebrities backing individual projects on a number of TV slots, it was never going to be a cut and dry competition. GMTV presenter Lorraine Kelly put her backing towards the Sustran Connect 2 project, Brian Blessed backed the Sherwood: the Living Legend project and Toyah Wilcox, the Black Country as an Urban Park project. Despite the competition, in the end the Sustran Connect 2 project, with its 79 practical projects around the country turned out to be the most popular choice for the voting public. Included in these projects is the aforementioned ‘Bridge the Gap project’ in Catterick, Yorkshire. Frank Broughton, of the Bridge the Gap project commented: “Catterick Bridge has heavy traffic and a blind bend. You would be very brave to attempt it on horseback.” The plan is to now renovate an old army bridge to provide safe connection between bridle paths in the area. |
