PETA campaign gets Pink’s backingHome -> News -> Pink backs PETA horse campaignPop singer Pink is backing a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) led campaign to ban horse-drawn carriage rides in New York City. The outspoken singer aims to use her celebrity status to raise awareness of the plight of working horses in the Big Apple and recently said: “I want New York to step up and completely rid itself of this outdated cruel tradition.” The star, who enjoyed horse riding as a child, believes that the animals are kept in cruel conditions that are inhumane for this day and age. Her face appears on a giant billboard in Times Square which reads “Buck Cruelty! Say no to horse-drawn carriage rides.” Her aim is for New York to follow the trend set by the likes of Tokyo, Bejing, Paris, Toronto, Key West and Sante Fe, which have all banned horse drawn carriage rides. Pink finished by saying: “Horses need to be in an open quiet space, they’re nervous animals, I mean they’re absolutely unnerved by the business. You can just look at it and see, it’s awful, it’s not a good thing.” For more information about PETA’s campaign, log on to its website: www.peta.org |
