Caring for a Stubben saddle

It is easy to see why Stubben saddles like the Siegfried and the Edelweiss are some of the most desired on the market.

These stunning horse saddles are hand-made by master craftsmen and you can see that from a mile away. The process of making one is extremely lengthy and involves over one hundred different steps. However, this is time and effort well-spent and this is obvious when the finished Stubben saddle emerges.

Made from utterly luxurious leather (either cowhide or water buffalo, depending on the saddle) and with a beautiful finish that just invites you to feel them, Stubben saddles are something quite extraordinary in the world of horse tack.

These masterpieces are not made to look good on the shelves, although they most certainly do. They are made to be used, day after day, year after year, whatever the weather. However, as any horse rider will know, any saddle will start to get rather dirty after it has been used a few times. In order to keep a Stubben saddle in tip top condition and get the most out of it, it is highly recommended that you take a few minutes to clean it after use. This way, you will still be able to enjoy the same supple, rich leather saddle for many rides to come.

Stubben leather care products

The Stubben family have an excellent relationship with the tanners who supply them with the fine hides that form the beginnings of each saddle. Stubben and the tanners also work closely together to make tailor-made leather care products that bring the best out of the saddles.

Stubben leather soap has been designed to gently remove any sweat or dirt from the pores of the leather, leaving the leather fresh and clean. It is recommended that it should be smoothed gently into the saddle using a circular motion with a damp sponge or cloth. It should then be polished using a soft cloth.

Following an application of Stubben leather soap, your saddle may benefit further from a Stubben Hamanol leather dressing. This leather care product restores and revives leather, as well as helping to improve texture and grip. It should be gently worked into the leather, allowed to dry, then buffed.
