Bates Australia horse saddles - A company history and development
When it comes to horse saddles, nothing can surpass the first-rate craftsmanship of the saddlers at Bates.
The international empire that we now know as Bates Australia began back in 1934 when George Bates borrowed $100 from his sister and set about making horse saddles on his veranda in Perth, Australia, thus introducing Bates saddlery.
Today his grandsons continue the family tradition, crafting exceptionally high quality horse saddles that use the latest in saddle technology in order to enhance comfort and performance for both you and your horse.
Horse saddle innovations
Bates Australia has seen many innovations, starting with the introduction of the Elastiflex Tree in 1970, which was designed to prolong the life of your horse saddle.
In 1984 the first ever full cloth race saddle was produced. Then just two years later Bates branched out, launching Wintec synthetic saddles worldwide. Wintec saddles brought with them a lightweight, easy care alternative to the leather horse saddles that Bates had become so renowned for.
The introduction of the EASY-CHANGE Gullet System in 1996 meant that horse lovers the world over were able to attain a horse saddle with the perfect fit even as the size and muscling of their horse fluctuated.
Lastly, but most definitely not least, the CAIR Panel System made its debut. This is favoured by professional equestrians, vets, remedial experts and horse saddlers alike. Air is used to cushion your horse's back and allow pressure to be distributed evenly, reducing the chance of pressure points developing. CAIR panels also provide a better standard of shock absorbency to provide you with a more comfortable horse riding experience. A horse saddle with CAIR panels is also far easier to fit and service.
Quality control
Bates horse saddles are crafted using leather sourced from the finest, hand-selected hides, then aniline dyed and expertly tanned to maximise suppleness, longevity and resistance to sweat.
Each Bates horse saddle then goes through a stringent quality control process to make sure that every saddle that leaves the factory reaches optimum standards.
These horse saddles then undergo independent expert testing to guarantee high-performance. For example, professional horse riders and equestrian sports champions endorse the Bates Momentum saddle. Stuart Tinney, Gold Medallist, 2000 Sydney Olympics, has reported how he appreciates both the aesthetics and comfort of this innovative horse saddle.
